Having a talk to myself
A few weeks ago I had to have a serious chat with myself. My life is pretty much a constant juggle. Dealing with Lincoln (10yrs), Lucy (10mnths), training clients, and having a very busy stream of spray tanning clients + running the household.
Having a lot on my plate resulted in my starting cardio at 4.45am, then being able to prep work and have everything ready for the day by 6.30. Yawn! Its enough to make anyone tired!
On top of that, being busy with my business meant that often I wasn’t getting the right food in the tank. Often I would be grabbing a chicken breast (I try to cook 3 days ahead) and skipping the veges, or downing a shake between clients.
I also noticed that I was leaving the gym feeling like I hadn’t done enough, often saying to myself “is that it”. I wasn’t experiencing any DOMS which I love so had to pretty much put on my Personal Trainer hat, look at what I was doing and re-assess. My weight was dropping too fast and I had to take note of the fact that I wouldn’t have anything to alter come the 12 week mark to competition day…not good!
So, with that, I have changed my programme and am no longer doing early morning cardio.
My programme is 5 weights sessions per week. Focusing on slowing down: lifting for a count of 3, lowering for a count of 2. I am also making sure I am stretching between sets…often stretching used to be skipped (naughty!)
Food: I’m still cooking 3 days ahead but am making sure I’m adding brown rice and veges to my glad-ware containers so I don’t skip it.
Cardio: At this stage it’s only what I do with Lucy…walking to the gym and home again after work.
This can be anywhere from 45 mins to an hour or so depending if we have errands to run. My walk isn’t a meander behind the stroller; I do power walk!
I’ve been doing this for 2 weeks now and have definitely noticed the improvements. My muscles are looking fuller, I have more energy and my stats are looking good.
I have kept my stats from the last class that I won and am doing my best to keep on a par with them. As of 24 Feb (20 weeks from comp). I am 24.84% fat, which means I’m carrying 15.12kg fat. And my lean mass is 45.78kg. At this stage my stats are 2 weeks ahead of where I was at the 20 week mark a couple of years ago.
Next plan…start sorting out a track for my routine!
